As the final destination of the exhibit, follow the signs to the Texas Road Trip and experience firsthand the real stories and real bones of Texas dinosaurs. In this portion of the Lone Star Dinosaur exhibit, move from station to station to see five newly discovered dinosaur species, all unearthed within an hour drive of Fort Worth.
“The Texas Road Trip is the grand finale of the exhibit by design,” said Jim Diffily, the Museum’s Vice President and Curator of Collections. “By this point, visitors have experienced firsthand the work of a paleontologist, giving them a better appreciation of the bone show than if they had just walked in off the street. The experiential learning portion of the exhibit helps visitors understand how truly remarkable it is to be standing in the same room as a dinosaur skeleton.”
Every specimen on display in this area dates back to the Cretaceous Period. Highway signage coupled with prehistoric markers will let you know exactly where each species was unearthed. As you take the Road Trip, be sure to stop at the Visitor Information Center to learn more about the individual finds. There you can gain online access to excavation photo albums and other in-depth information.
Lone Star Dinosaurs is currently in storage during Museum construction. Watch for its return Fall 2009!

Two complete dinosaur skeletons are on display here: a yet unnamed ornithopod found near Proctor Lake in Comanche County as well as the Tenontosaurus dossi, another ornithopod discovered by a seven-year-old boy and his father at Doss Ranch outside Weatherford. The biggest attraction is a partially reconstructed, 57-foot Pleurocoelus, the official dinosaur of Texas. This particular specimen was found by University of Texas students at Jones Ranch in Hood County. The skulls of a Protohadros byrdi discovered in Flower Mound and a Pawpawsaurus campbelli found
at
Fossil Creek are also on display
along with the bones of a baby nodosaur.
Who knows? Maybe one day a dinosaur you find may be part of the Texas Road Trip. It could happen!
